Hawk

Still.

Still on the branch of a sweet chestnut.

Claws grip bark and eyes stare ahead at the jam: utterly immovable –

our jam – car bound.

He’s free and still and absolute.

No questions.

They are ours.

Still and magnificent through the dapple.

We crawl and still….

he’s still.

  1. He’s probably spotted a mouse for breakfast.

  2. Oooh, love this. Enjoyed the soothing repetition of still, and was also struck by the truth of, ‘no questions/they are ours’ – brilliant!

  3. Love the contrast:still vs crawling. The repetition of s till works rally well, good writing, loved it, but frustrated for all the right reasons lol!

  4. Way to capture your subject’s essence!

  5. I love how you capture his magnificent and dignified stillness, versus our undignified crawling in line….lovely writing ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. You described the mood of both his tranquility and the traffic immobility nicely. I am amazed at how still those birds of prey can sit.

  7. Nicely put, like a hawk, watching the world, in mindfulness.
